Where would we be without our rangelands? I'm not sure if there is an answer for that. Rangelands are a vital resource for our world, their uses are endless. Rangelands serve as our agricultural lands, recreation, aesthetics, habitat for wildlife, and more. About 54% of our terrestrial land is rangeland. People from all around the world rely on our rangelands whether that rancher and producers or pastoralists and recreationalist.
These extensive and diverse landscapes house a multitude of organisms from the grasses, shrubs, and forbs, to the wildlife such as deer, big cats, bison, and so many more, and even the microorganisms inhabiting the soil. Rangelands also contribute to carbon storage which is important for combatting climate change.
People gain economic and social values from rangelands whether thats raising livestock to sell or growing plants to sell seed. Rangelands provide opportunity for education, teach the people of this world their importance and necessity. Many of us probably have our homes sitting on what used to be rangeland. There aren't many places that you can go and not be able to induldge in range in some form or fashion.
All of this is to say that the health of rangelands is ever so necessary to continue withour way of life. From the beef you are eating to the hikes you take, to watching outside your window on a long car ride, rangelands hold value in so many ways. Rangelands sustain our world in more ways than one and each way is just as important as the next. So the next time you're hunting, next time you're watch the cattle graze, next time you're outside, remember we would not be able to make it without our rangelands.
